This was a great Re:deem, ignoring slight technical hitches. The visiting speaker from Ireland, Lynn Somervile talked about the armour of God and the belt of truth. The basics from her talk are below, enjoy!
When the bible was written a belt was used by the roman soldiers to help them run unhindered! Lynn opened up the passage using this image of a roman soldier being hindered by a long skirt:
She then went on to think about things that hindered us both in our past (mistakes we have made), our future (jobs or maybe what others think you should be doing) and lastly other worries (relationships, friendships, money and family)
She then explained how these can stop us from doing what God wants us to do.
But if we put God's truth around us these things won't hinder us at all! But how?
In our past we are told that our lives have gone away! In Romans 6 Paul tells us that our old life is dead. And in Hebrews 10v 17 we are told that our sins are not remembered.
Looking at our futures, in Jeremiah 29 v 11 God tells us that he has a hope for us and that he has a future for us. He wants the very best for his children. In other words, He wants the very best for you!
With regards to our worries God tells us that we must not worry. When Jesus gave his Sermon on the Mount he talked about our worries. He pointed out that God provided for the birds of the air. So he obviously is going to care so much more for us and so whatever we are worried about we need to remember who our great provider is?
Remember who our strength and refuge is?
Who is our deliverer?
Our Heavenly Father!
Our Faithful God!
